Studio visit with Erica George

As we build the portfolio of artists and tutors, I make regular visits to the studios of our makers to chat and take photos of their work. I usually overstay my welcome drinking coffee and chatting, mainly because I am captivated by their stories and the spaces that our artists create around them. Each space, a haven for any artist. Stuff. Tools of the trade. Colours and textures that feed our artists’ minds and creativity.

I love to share with you what goes on behind the scenes, so that you can see what care and attention we take, to choose for you a group of remarkable and creative people. How great that we have managed to coax them from their dens and persuaded them to come out and teach you their skills. Skills which have taken them hours to hone down, years to perfect.

Erica is the most talented lady! You have to see her work, stare at it for ages and remind yourself how clever she has been, to draw those lines so perfectly and then to cut them so expertly, by hand, with a small knife. You need to take the time to appreciate the intricacy and detail of her work. She meticulously designs and draws her ideas first and shapes and re-shapes the line until she has mastered the perfect edge for cutting.

Her work is truly remarkable and captivating and when Erica teaches you the art, you will be captivated too.
